Klondike Solitaire Rules

Klondike Solitaire is the classic card solitaire game — the one everyone knows simply as "Solitaire". It is played with a standard 52-card deck and requires strategy, patience, and a little luck.

Objective

Move all 52 cards to the 4 foundation piles at the top, one per suit (hearts, diamonds, clubs, spades), building each from Ace up to King. When all four foundations are complete, you win.

Table layout

• Tableau (7 columns): the main playing columns. The first has 1 card, the second 2, up to the seventh with 7 cards. Only the top card of each column is face up.
• Foundations (4 piles): at the top right, initially empty. Built from Ace to King for each suit.
• Stock: the remaining 24 face-down cards, at the top left.
• Waste: next to the stock, where drawn cards are placed face up.

How to play

• Cards in the tableau are stacked in descending order alternating color: a black card on a red card and vice versa (e.g. 9 of hearts on 10 of spades).
• Groups of consecutive cards can be moved together as long as they follow the alternating color rule.
• An empty column can only be filled by a King (or a sequence starting with a King).
• Clicking the stock draws one card at a time to the waste; only the top waste card is playable.
• When the stock runs out, the waste is automatically recycled back into the stock.
• Foundations are built in ascending order by suit: Ace, 2, 3… up to King.

How to play "Klondike Solitaire by Luciano"

• Automatic placement: click a card to move it automatically to the best available position (foundation if possible, otherwise tableau).
• Manual placement: drag the card (or group of cards) to the desired column.
• Draw a card: click the stock pile at the top left.
• Auto-complete: when all face-down cards have been revealed, the game completes itself automatically by flying the remaining cards to the foundations.

Buttons

• NEW: start a new game.
• ↩ (Undo): undo the last move.
• 🔊 / 🔇 (Audio): enables or disables the game sound effects. Your preference is saved and applied across all games on the site. Note: if your browser or operating system has muted audio for this tab, sounds will remain silent regardless of this button, as that control is managed by the browser outside the scope of the page.

Tips

Move Aces to the foundations as soon as possible. Try to uncover face-down cards early — each revealed card opens new possibilities. An empty column is very valuable: use it to reorganize sequences and unblock Kings. Avoid sending cards to the foundations too eagerly if it restricts your tableau moves.
