Shortcuts — Rules and Game Guide

This game comes from a memory of my youth that is very dear to me. I invented it as a boy to play with my brothers and friends: I would take classic sheets of graph paper, grab a ruler and colored pens, and spend hours mapping out circuits full of forks, shortcuts, and sneaky traps.

Sometimes I would tape multiple sheets together to build huge, sprawling boards, where we’d spend entire afternoons rolling dice, overtaking each other on the last turn, and sharing great laughs.

Bringing this game to life today in a digital edition is a powerful rush of nostalgia for me. I truly hope it brings you the same simple, genuine fun we shared during those carefree afternoons.

Shortcuts is a strategy board game played on a graph-paper grid (3×3 block visual layout). Players roll dice and navigate their tokens along a circuit filled with forks, shortcuts, detour loops, and tricky traps that can send pieces backwards!

1. The Board and Tracks

The circuit features several distinct colored tracks:

Track Color Feature & Effect
Main Track Black / White The main 100-cell circuit leading from start (cell 0) to finish (cell 99).
Green Shortcut Emerald / Lime Green Cuts curves and loops to gain valuable lead distance.
Orange Detour Orange A longer loop that delays progress toward the finish line.
Red Trap Red A deceptive loop that sends tokens backwards toward earlier cells!
Purple Junction Purple Cross-track bridge connecting different board areas.
Teal Turbo Teal / Cyan High-speed expressway leading directly toward the final straight.
Pink & Amber Bridges Pink / Amber Rapid diagonal connectors and shortcuts.

2. How to Play

  1. On each turn, roll two 6-sided dice.
  2. Your piece moves forward by the sum of the two dice.
  3. Double Roll: Rolling doubles (e.g. 4-4, 5-5) grants an immediate extra roll!

3. Junction & Fork Rules

Junctions and forks are marked with fine directional arrows inside cells:
